Indianapolis Spring Break, Day 2
Our 2nd day in Indianapolis was filled with good food!
We had scouted out a bakery nearby our hotel, so I was sent out to go get some sugary sustenance and some drink items from a nearby convenience store. Long’s Bakery had many yummy items, so many that we would have to go back another day!
Long’s Bakery was obviously a local favorite and staple, as it took about ten minutes to even start my order, but that’s OK – I needed the time to make my decision for us! I made sure to get KC a white powdered & a sprinkled donut. I favored the danish and glazed donuts, and something unique/out of the ordinary for Krysten – a connoli! Everything was delicious!
The last time we spent a week in a hotel (last March, 2017) we learned not to rush into getting out the door, but rather to allow the kids to wake up and get their bearings. Granted, KC is now a year older than last vacation, but it doesn’t hurt to err on the side of caution.
We thought we would drive a little and explore some of Indianapolis. We found a neat residential area with cobblestone roads and lovely houses. We didn’t stop to get out much to stroll, however, because the temperature DROPPED from yesterday. It was cold and windy, so no outdoor adventuring like yesterday, but I’ll bet this place is stunning in the summer.
A few strange turns later and we were on our way to the City Market. This place reminds us of the market in Cleveland, where we have visited several times.
I am very curious as to what this building was first used as, if anything. The old-style iron frame above gives it the look of an old train terminal or something like that. It was very neat to see. There were many vendors, most of them food & drink, providing downtown regulars and tourists (like us) with a veritable smorgasbord!
I have a hard time saying “no” to pizza. That vendor took about a whole corner of the place! It’s a good thing I don’t live around here, or my famed metabolism might get a run for its money, if I would have any left.
Krysten opted for a Mediterranean vendor which offered a spinach pastry, white rice, salad, and baklava. KC tends to share our entrees, especially if the food is a little more expensive, but he favored mine pretty heavily today.
We didn’t stay downtown very long. It was too windy and breezy for our taste to be outside for any length of time! I saw signs for comic con, which is a fan convention for anything comic book, movie, or superhero related. I would like to see one sometime if I ever had the available time & funds! For now I’m content watching youtube videos from the events when I’m in the mood.
We did see some more interesting architecture during our downtown drives. We even spotted a working tower crane, which KC liked 😉
Next we decided to go to Garfield Park Conservatory! This was a neat garden area. It was a fairly small facility, but there was much to see!!
There was a scavenger hunt we worked on while we were there, and the boys liked looking for specific things in the garden! There were all kinds of different fairy tale scenes and everywhere you looked there was an interesting gnome or critter!
We spent a good hour or more at the garden. It was getting close to naptime so we started heading back to the hotel. On the way we stopped for coffee! (Krysten’s the coffee lover in this family!)
We stumbled across Lincoln Lane Coffee Co. which is a neat little place in collaboration with The Lincoln Center, a local community outreach & ministry site.
Besides a coffee shop, there were tables to read or work, play area for kids, ping pong table, and more! We thought it was a really neat concept and it looked like they do a lot of good for their community!
With coffee to go we were soon back to the hotel and started on the boys’ late afternoon naps. We were feeling pretty lazy that evening so just hung out at the hotel watching TV and the boys played with some toys.
For supper we used Grubhub for the first time to get some food delivered to the hotel. KC and I had chinese, but Krysten went for a Poke bowl! It was from Ali’i Poke. Krysten says it was one of her favorite meals in a long, long time! All in all a nice 2nd day in Indianapolis!
