Indianapolis Spring Break, Day 4!
Last day of vacation! We checked out of the hotel and drove to Carmel, IN. It was a sunny day (Yes! Sometimes I think we’re related to Superman; we get our powers from the sun.) but it was still a little chilly from the breeze.
Main Street Carmel is very lovely. They had statues all around the sidewalk in different areas, each doing something different. It’s a very artsy feeling area, with lots of shops.
We stopped in a couple shops, one of them being a large antique store. Krysten thinks we’ve been here before. It has two floors and many vendors. KC of course was always on the lookout for cars & trucks.
We looked for place for lunch, and KC was whining a bit (the wind was still a little chilly). We found a hamburger place called Bub’s. I considered doing “Big Ugly Challenge,” which is a one pound hamburger, or possibly just two half-pound burgers. I was very tempted, but I settled for half-pound Elk Burger instead. I think the only burger I’ve eaten which is its equal was on Route 66, at Clanton’s Café. I probably could have done the full one pound. There were a lot of photos of people who accomplished the task and held the empty plates as proof of victory. Next time.
Main Street Treats was the next place to visit, for Krysten’s sake. This was a bakery and candy shop with cupcakes, rice crispies, and cookies. KC wanted an orange cookie (a basketball shaped one!)
We didn’t get too loaded up on treats however, because we were planning on visiting Sub-Zero Nitrogen Ice Cream! I have never seen ice cream like this, nor have I eaten any like it. You customize it like you do at Coldstone, but the way they do it is they freeze it with nitrogen. Real nitrogen. Like, the frozen stuff that you hear of in the movies. This large tank is filled with it. They pour the heavy cream and flavor syrup in along with any toppings, then they pump in the nitrogen, and fog goes everywhere!
The ice cream itself is sooo smooth, it feels like gelato. Because of how it freezes, there aren’t any air bubbles, so it really is ice cream. Very delicious.
This cheered KC to watch the ice cream being made! The guys were very friendly and welcoming!
We had spotted a music store on our way down the street but it wasn’t open yet, so on our way back we popped in for a visit, just to see what they had. Lots of guitars, some other string instruments like banjo or ukulele, lots of amplifiers, a few keyboards and some books & sheet music. We chatted for a little bit and headed out. RA is starting to wave at people when we say “Bye!” We climbed into our van and made the trek home.
That, my friends, concludes our Spring Break 2018 series. We hope you have enjoyed the ride and gained some insight into some neat Indy activities! Be on the lookout for more trips to come this summer! Our schedule lightens up, so we get the chance to go and do more things, even if it’s just a day trip. See you on our next then!
